We took a ride to Whole Foods on Friday. K loved every minute of it. She examined every single produce item that they had for sale. I let her pick out some items and she chose butternut squash, plums, kiwis, a whole coconut, bagels, yogurt, Italian bread and some mixed nuts. She kept saying what a wonderful day we were having. It was a nice day. We also had to stop at Target to get some disposable diapers for our trip which is 3 weeks away. I saw some capri pants that I think I may go back to buy tomorrow. I don't have any spring/summer clothes that fit me and I don't see myself losing much weight while I'm nursing.
I never get a chance to watch movies these days but I did get to see Ray. What a great movie and Jamie Foxx played an amazing part. I'm glad that I bought it because I'd like to watch it again.
Kaelyn had an extensive hearing test today and a visit with the ENT. I'm distraught about how badly her hearing is. They couldn't detect any movement in her eardrum when they performed the tympanogram. She's filled with fluid. Our plan is to treat K with antibiotics for two weeks with the hope that it clears things up. The doctor thinks we have about a 50/50 chance. In the meantime we've scheduled surgery to have her adenoids removed and tympanostomy tubes placed in on March 3rd IF the antibiotics don't help. If they do clear the fluid we'll just cancel the surgery. Next week she's scheduled to take a tour of the hospital and meet the nurses who will care for her in the recovery room. Chad will take the day off to be with us. I've also asked my grandmother to come so that she can stay with Lindsey in the waiting room so that I can come out to nurse her. Hopefully it will be a nice day and they can take a walk near the hospital while they wait. I'm not sure of any other options that we have at this point.
What a difference. Lindsey is really doing well now but I do realize that as the evening arrives she may feel lousy again. She's actually smiling which is something she didn't do at all yesterday.
I spent the wee hours of the morning in the ER with Lindsey. She caught the ick from Kaelyn but it progressed so rapidly. She woke up Tuesday with a fever and by the evening she was so sick. She had a cough that hurt her terribly which caused her to cry from 7pm until 2am when I decided that I had tried everything (Tylenol Cold and Cough, humidifier, cool night air, propping her up on my chest) and I needed to bring her in. I hate going to the ER and I would have liked to wait til the morning to see her pediatrician but she was scaring me. She calmed a little on the drive there but as soon as I carefully took her out of her carseat she started coughing again. She was coughing so much that she couldn't even nurse. The ER wasn't as busy as it could have been but the majority of the patients were children. She has croup and an ear infection. In the ER they gave her a dose of decadron for the croup and a dose of antibiotics. Within an hour or two she was feeling much better and having an easier time breathing and we were able to come home and get some sleep.
When I brought Lindsey for her well baby check in the beginning of Jan I mentioned to the doc that Kaelyn's ears seemed to be blocked. This had been going on for a few weeks and she did have a cold. I wasn't worried and neither was he. He said that if it continued to bring her back in. Since we were going in today because of her fever etc. I mentioned it to the NP. She decided that Kaelyn should probably have an ear test since there was no infection but some fluid. I felt like puking while they gave her the test because I could clearly see that she failed and wasn't hearing many of the tones at all. One of her ears has severe hearing loss and the other has moderate hearing loss. We have an appt with her ENT on Tuesday (the 15th) for some additional testing. Her hearing was tested at her physical in Sept and was perfect and then again at school in November (I think) and it was also perfect. It seems to be something that has happened fairly recent and probably hasn't done permanent damage to her hearing. It still sucks because I know that they are going to suggest tubes. She had tubes when she was about 8 months old and they fell out within 2 weeks. She had replacements put in right away and those fell out right away also. She hasn't had ear trouble in years and I said that I would never allow tubes to be placed in her ears again. Now, I'm feeling torn about what the best thing would be for her hearing. Arggh!!! I just need to hold off until I get more information from the ENT and find out ALL of our options.
K has had a fever since Friday. She says that her whole body hurts and she's always chilly. I'm wondering if she has the flu. I'm bringing her in to see the NP this afternoon just to be sure that she doesn't have a respiratory infection.
Lindsey is napping on my lap. Kaelyn is listening to her Peter and Ellen CD and Chad is taking a shower. After he is done I'll shower and then we're going out to dinner by ourselves. Nothing fancy but we'll drop the girls at my parents house and then enjoy a meal alone.
I ordered Lindsey a pair of Robeez and they arrived today. They're a little big but she doesn't need them yet anyhow.
